Let’s get thankful!

Gobble Gobble!

Please humor me as I once again enumerate all of the things I am thankful for this year.

I am thankful for my family and friends. I am thankful to have two intelligent and thoughtful sons, and I am very thankful we can send them to college. I am aware how difficult that is for so many families, and I never take for granted that they have this opportunity. I am thankful my father was able to celebrate a big birthday, and my parents were able to celebrate their 50th anniversary this year. I am thankful to have a large, loving family and group of friends who celebrated these milestones with us. And I am most thankful of all to my husband who has kept me tethered during a challenging year.

I am thankful that the midterm elections are behind us, and that there wasn’t the predicted red wave. I am thankful to the courageous activists, politicians, and lawyers who are out there fighting every day to protect our rights, and to the voters who showed up on Election Day. And I continue to be thankful to the Biden administration for continuing to work to make Americans’ lives better.

I continue to be thankful for the glut of wonderful television we are drowning in. And somewhat paradoxically, I am thankful to have a busy enough life that I can’t possibly keep up with all of it. I am thankful for the trash TV, too — I am thankful for The Bachelor and The Bachelorette and Love is Blind because we all need to turn our brains off sometimes. And I am thankful that the La Brea writers continue to be some of the laziest and hackiest in the business because they make my job so easy.

And, as always, I am thankful to you, my Foolish Watcher neighbor. I’ve been going through a year of change — some good, some … not so good — and coming here has been a refuge, a place where I could find my legs again. A large part of that is that I know I’m not alone here, and I can come talk to you about TV or entertainment or politics, and take my mind off of things for a while. Thank you for being a part of my little community.

I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with family, friends, and food, and I promise to not be so maudlin next time we hang out.
