Netflix had their Q4 call yesterday and broke some big news:

They are doing away with the Basic $11.99 ad-free subscription. The cheapest ad-free subscription will soon be $15.49 per month. You can still get a $6.99 ad-supported plan, but gah. They also say

After taking a hit in subscribers last year, this past quarter saw 13.12 million new subscribers, and they now have 260.28 million subscribers. They attribute the password crackdown to the increase in subscribers.

Netflix’s head of Film, Scott Stuber, is leaving to create his own media company, but Netflix says they are unbothered. ~raise one eyebrow skeptically~

As The Verge points out, between Netflix’s new deal with the WWE, and their rerunning Sex & the City and Suits, are they just becoming a … cable channel?

Nic Pizzolatto doesn’t seem to care much for the new season of True Detective and is out there snarking about it. Hey Nic? Maybe if you hadn’t ruined your own series, and then been a dick to everyone, you wouldn’t have lost control over the series. Meanwhile, have a seat, sir, and be quiet.
