Which TV characters would you send to a White Lotus?

Man vs. Chicken:

Here’s A BUNCH OF TV News

Wednesday has proven to be a big hit for Netflix: more than 50 million households streamed at least the premiere episode, making it the largest English language debut.

Here are 13 interesting facts and easter eggs about the Tim Burton series.

This is a little business inside-baseball story, but reportedly, Warner Bros. Discovery is close to striking a deal with Amazon to distribute animated DC content. What I find interesting about this is that this is the complete opposite approach towards creating a “universe” than what Disney/Marvel is taking. Disney is keeping a death grip on the Marvel content, distributing only through its own channels, including Disney+ and ABC, and pulling back other Marvel properties from other sources, like all the Netflix content. So it’s curious that Warner Bros. Discovery, which just announced that they are creating a “DCU” is going to sell some of that content to other distributors. I guess it doesn’t have any impact on the storytelling itself; I just find it a little strange.

Speaking of, The Verge has a good explanation of why all the streamers are jacking up their prices. It seems that streamers are in a difficult spot: either keep your content exclusive and pay other companies for extra content, like Netflix does; or sell your content to other sources, thereby diminishing the value of your own service, ala the HBO Max/Hulu model. Everyone loses!

And while we’re at it: CNN is beginning layoffs.  They are also underway at CBS, CBS Studios, and Paramount Studios.

Here’s President Biden in Michigan returning to the podium after an event had ended to tell the crowd that the US Men’s Soccer Team beat Iran in yesterday’s huge (heartstopping) game. U!S!A! U!S!A!

Something I hadn’t considered: the fate of Team Iran. After refusing to sing their national anthem at their first match in support of the protestors, and then their loss to the United States, the players themselves could face beatings and arrest when they return home. They are brave and played well. Keep them in your thoughts.

The Respect for Marriage Act passed the Senate yesterday with 12 Republican votes. It will head to President Biden to be signed soon. And the bill is good but imperfect. It states that states have to recognize married gay and interracial couples as being married, even if their state outlaws gay or interracial marriage. And that’s the sticking point: we aren’t doing enough to fix the disaster that would happen if the Supreme Court were to reverse their 2015 decision making gay marriage the law of the land — which they are threatening to do. If that happens, states like my own would be allowed to return to outlawing gay and even interracial marriage again — a decision that would cause chaos and disruption for millions of American families.

COVID is the reason Val Kilmer didn’t reprise his role in Willow, but it’s still possible his character could appear in a second season in the event Disney renews it.

The Kim Kardashian/Kanye West divorce is settled. Yay. Maybe now she can start dating again without him losing his damn mind, but probably not.

Dr. Oz probably ruined his chances of making a TV comeback by running as Trump’s candidate for Senate. OH WELL, SO SAD.

An old TV Funhouse clip called “Conspiracy Theory Rock,” which exposed the fact that a small number of corporations control the entire media environment was pulled from Saturday Night Live reruns after only airing the one time. The bit has been circulating on social media recently, along with the story of it being censored, so creator Robert Smigel addressed it on his Instagram, telling the whole story, including how Adam McKay leaked the story of it being banned:

The “Send them to a White Lotus” meme is one of my new favorites. There are countless variations on this, but these are the casts that I would legitimately watch:

That last one, The OC, might be the tweet that started the trend and you know what? At least Ben McKenzie is down:

Other characters I would send to a White Lotus: The Sopranos; Tom and Donna from Parks and Rec; The Lannisters and the Martells from Game of Thrones; the entire cast of Veep staying at the White Lotus for a G7 summit; the cast of 30 Rock filming a special at the hotel as part of some GE synergy project; I’d film a season of Bachelor in Paradise there; The Golden Girls; Darius and Paper Boi of Atlanta; and, of course, the Muppets. All of the Muppets.
