Here’s A BUNCH OF TV News

Tom Selleck is still out here complaining about Blue Bloods being canceled (it will have a final 8 episodes in the fall), despite being on the air for FOURTEEN SEASONS. The cast has been pretty united in trying to convince CBS to change its mind about canceling the series, and you know, who knows. They’ve backtracked twice now on S.W.A.T. so I guess there’s no harm in trying.

That said, Mr. Tom Selleck, whinging that you might not be able to afford your 63-acre ranch (which is only one of his properties) if Blue Bloods is canceled is not a great way to garner sympathy. 1. Maybe don’t go around buying ranches you can’t afford, sir, and 2. there’s a reverse mortgage joke in here, but I’m not going to be the one to make it.

CBS also canceled NCIS: Hawai’i this year, without giving the series notice, and the series finale ended with a cliffhanger that will never be answered. (Based on the description of how the show ended in the linked article, it is curious that they didn’t just edit the final scene out.) Maybe they can clear up what happened on one of the other 18 variations of NCIS.

Also ending this season is Bob ♥ Abishola, which was given a heads-up that season five would be its last. Still, it didn’t keep executive producer Gina Yashere from being upset that networks create diverse shows for performative reasons, only to abandon them down the road.

Could The Bear become the most Emmy-nominated comedy series, dethroning 30 Rock? MAYBE. Could it become the most Emmy-nominated series ever, dethroning Game of Thrones? PROBABLY NOT BUT WHO KNOWS.

Some ESPN programming and live sports events will be on Disney+ by the end of the year.

Marvel is going to calm the fuck down with all the movies and TV shows, finally.

Schmigadoon! is going to become an actual stage musical.

That “Be honest” moment between David Beckham and Posh Spice did not go over well with her in the moment. (Totally worth it, though.)

#MeToo

Reece Lyons, a trans actress, claims that she went out with Richard Gadd, the creator and star of Baby Reindeer, on four dates before auditioning for the series some six months later. (She was not cast.) Netflix investigated to make sure no lines were crossed, and Gadd was cleared of any misdoings. So, a total non-story.

Spacey Unmasked, a new documentary that recently aired on Channel 4 in the U.K. and will stream on Max here in the States, featured interviews with 10 new people with allegations against Kevin Spacey, going back to his teen years. Spacey is furious, claiming that he was not given adequate time to respond, and that the documentary is a “desperate attempt for ratings.” He then posted an interview on Twitter, claiming he “has nothing left to hide,” and claims he was planning to come out of the closet if he had won an Emmy for House of Cards. Spacey will be going back to court in the U.K. next year as another man has sued him for sexual assault.

New York will re-prosecute Harvey Weinstein for rape after an appeals court threw out his conviction.

Mariska Hargitay has some thoughts about Weinstein’s case being thrown out:

“I do want to say something about the overturned Harvey Weinstein conviction. Specifically about the reason it was overturned: Too many women’s voices. Too many women were allowed to speak,” she said, referring to the conviction being overturned after the court found testimony against Weinstein was unfairly allowed based on allegations that weren’t part of the case.

“Risky to let women speak? You’re damn right it is. Too many women speaking brings change,” she said. The backlash to #MeToo is evidence of “how powerful those voices are,” she continued.

Paula Abdul’s sexual assault and battery suit lawsuit against Nigel Lythgoe will go to trial in July 2025.

Dan Schneider has filed a defamation lawsuit against the creators of the Quiet On Set documentary, for “falsely portraying him as a child predator.”

Daniel Radcliffe, like many of us, is saddened by J.K. Rowling’s vitriol towards the trans community.
