About that deal Paramount struck with California and 11 other states: As I suspected, Paramount has promised to stay in California and will not sell either the Paramount or Warner Bros. lots for at least five years. They have promised to release 30 movies a year, going up to 32 eventually, and spend $300 million on film production annually. There will be a third-party entity, a “news editorial independence board,” to oversee CNN and CBS News, and hopefully keep Bari Weiss’ hands off of CNN. But don’t get too excited: Ellison will be appointing this board.

Now, what I worry about looking at this is that Paramount was already saddled with $77 billion (with a B) in debt by making this deal, and cuts are going to have to come from somewhere. And what I’m seeing, at least at this early stage, there are few protections for the TV side. The exception seems to be that Pluto TV will be protected for at least five years, and Paramount and Warner Bros. will have to negotiate their cable packages separately. But that’s it. Which means TV jobs are about to be cut. Widely.

The writers aren’t happy; the actors aren’t happy; CNN isn’t happy; Wall Street isn’t happy; late night can’t be happy; the only people who appear to be happy are David Ellison and Gavin Newsom.

Jessica Lange only wanted to return to American Horror Story if she could play all four former characters (and a mystery fifth character).

Seth Meyers is back from the longest hiatus Late Night has ever taken (with the exception of COVID) and has explained that they took such a long break for our own good.

President Violation is promising to appeal the ruling in the lawsuit brought by CNN, MS Now, and Politico for banning them from the White House. A judge has not ruled on it yet.

Meanwhile, other media outlets, including The Washington Post, New York Times, PBS, NPR, Reuters, Getty, and HuffPost, have joined the White House Pool suspension in protest. The result of the pool not being there to cover him has been inadvertently hilarious. SOUND ON:

Oh, what’s that? Piers Morgan is lying about President Obama banning Fox News from the White House? Huh. Weird.

Apparently the White House launched something called “Trump TV” on YouTube, and it’s not going well. But those cease-and-desist letters will be coming soon, methinks.

Former Fox News producer Jennifer Eckhart has committed suicide. She had accused former Fox News anchor Ed Henry of raping and sexually assaulting her, leading to his termination from the network. Her lawsuit against Fox News was dismissed; she settled with Henry days before his trial was set to start.

Braden “Clavicular” Peters has been charged with “one count each of rape, drugging a person for sex and providing alcohol to a minor in Massachusetts.”

Scott “Carrot Top” Thompson is recovering from a suicide attempt shortly after being sued for sexual exploitation, and “a second independent victim” came forward to support the plaintiff.

Mindy Tessa McKoin, a Key Second Assistant Director on Shrinking, has accused executive producer Kip Kroeger of sexually harassing and assaulting her and of Warner Bros. ignoring her complaints.

Lauren Boebert has been accused of having affairs with staff members and paying them hundreds of thousands of dollars in hush money. Boebert denies the allegations.

Kat Dennings recalls nixing a scene in 2 Broke Girls in which she and her co-star were supposed to run around in bras.

Rosie O’Donnell says ABC blocked a segment she wanted to do honoring the Epstein survivors when she guest-hosted Jimmy Kimmel Live!, so she made the video that she later posted on Instagram.
