Vice President Kamala Harris gave a speech at the Ellipse last night to a crowd that last I checked was estimated to be 75,000 people deep. It was a deeply symbolic move, taking back the space that Former President Insurrectionist used to launch the violence against the Capitol on January 6, 2021. And her speech drew sharp contrast between herself and her opponent, reminding voters that our country is not a “garbage can” as Former President Hates America has repeatedly called it, but instead:

“These United States of America, we are not a vessel for the schemes of wannabe dictators,” Harris said. “The United States of America is the greatest idea of humanity ever devised, a nation big enough to encompass all our dreams, strong enough to withstand any fracture or fissure between us, and fearless enough to imagine a future of possibilities.” 

No one called Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage,” no one shat in our Capitol building, and no Capitol police were attacked following the event.

Unfortunately, President Joe Biden stepped on Harris’ message of unity by making a gaffe on a video call yesterday. In his defense of Puerto Rico, President Biden said the only “garbage that I see floating out there is his [supporters/supporter’s]–his demonization of Latinos is unconscionable, and it’s un-American.” The White House immediately clarified that President Biden was calling the comedian who made the joke about Puerto Rico “garbage,” not Former President Garbage Can’s supporters, but Republicans pounced on it, insisting that this is another “basket of deplorables” moment, which hurt Hillary Clinton in 2016.

And look, I understand that calling Former President Nazi Rally’s supporters “garbage” is not keeping to the message of unity that Vice President Harris is espousing here in the final week of the election.

But the truth of the matter is, if you support a campaign that has been called “fascist” by people from the inside; if you support a campaign that is calling for mass deportation; if you support a campaign that labels an entire group of people “rapists and murderers;” if you support a campaign that refers to the opposite political side as “enemies from within” and threatens them with military-based retribution; if you support a campaign that is planning on stripping 45 million Americans of their affordable healthcare; if you support a campaign that takes delight in denying an entire gender of necessary health care and tearing away a right of bodily autonomy that they had for 50 years; if you support a campaign that says its Bible-and-sneaker-hawking convicted felon and adjudicated rapist of a leader will be a “dictator” on “day one;” if you support a campaign that refuses to respect our democracy and tries with the help of our enemies to undermine our free and fair elections? President Joe is right about you. You are garbage. 

Vice President Harris’ campaign might have to apologize for the comment, but I sure as hell don’t.

We know more about season two of Presumed Innocent: It is taking an anthology route, and will not be based on the original Scott Turrow characters. Instead, it will be based on Dissection of a Murder, a novel by Jo Murray that features a female lead, Leila Reynolds, a defense attorney.

Now that she’s not on Bravo anymore, Vicki Gunvalson is complaining about how the Real Housewives of Orange County producers handled her learning her mother died.

Please stop bullying soap opera actresses, you monsters.
