NBC doesn’t want Leslie Jones live-tweeting the Olympics because they are dumb idiots

As you might have noticed, no, I’m not covering the Winter Olympics. Like the Tokyo Olympics, I think it’s a bad idea to be holding them in the middle of a pandemic, but this time with a HUGE side dish of human rights violations. And then there is weirdness like this: a Dutch reporter was literally yanked off camera by Chinese authorities in the middle of his report, and no one understands why. (You know, aside from the whole thing where China is an authoritarian state that doesn’t believe in free speech.)

Meanwhile, NBC is out here giving Leslie Jones a hard time for trying to live-tweet the Games in her signature style. It sounds like they’re pulling her videos, and tried to replace her on Peacock with the likes of Kevin Hart and Snoop Dogg.

NO MA’AM. Leslie Jones is the original and the best, and just because she’s no longer on NBC and is now on ABC is not reason enough for y’all to be treating her like this. SHE IS DOING Y’ALL A FAVOR. SHE IS BRINGING EYEBALLS TO THE BROADCASTS. WHAT PART OF THAT DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND? I get that it’s a copyright violation — but it really feels like NBC should have come to some sort of arrangement with Jones to avoid what is already a public relations disaster — a public relations disaster during a Games when NBC can’t afford any more controversies.

In other Olympic news, Shaun White is retiring after these Games.

Hey — remember last week when we all had to take a second and hand it to Robin Thicke for leaving The Masked Singer stage with Ken Jeong in protest of Rudy Giuliani? Yeah, lol, he wasn’t making a political statement, he was just checking on Jeong. And for half of one second there, I actually had a little respect for him …

According to John Bradley, who played Sam on Game of Thrones and is now in Benioff and Weiss’s new series, The Three-Body Problem, this new Netflix series will be even more ambitious than GoT. On the plus side: the trilogy of books this series is based on is complete, so they won’t have to come up with their own rushed ending. On the negative: REALLY?

Speaking of Game of Thrones: the new studio tour in Northern Ireland has opened.

It’s the 10th anniversary of Netflix’s first series which was … can you remember? … Lilyhammer, starring one Steven Van Zandt.

Meanwhile, All of Us Are Dead has become the most popular title on Netflix, becoming the second Korean series to do so.

After going to jail and being exposed in a Netflix documentary, Tinder Swindler Shimon Hayut has FINALLY been banned on Tinder.

Mary Crosby will not be returning to The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, reportedly.

CNN is still reeling after the Zucker fiasco. Don Lemon delivered a teary tribute to Zucker on Friday’s show, and people are wondering how long the Other Woman, Allison Gollust can last at the network. Because — that’s right — Gollust didn’t resign, too. She’s trying to stick it out.

HBO Max is being sued by Village Roadshow for streaming Matrix Resurrections instead of releasing it in theaters. Good luck with all that.
