We had our first look at Nicole Kidman as Lucille Ball and people have … thoughts

The trailer for Being the Ricardos came out yesterday and gave us our first real look at Niciole Kidman as Lucille Ball. To say people are unimpressed is an understatement, especially since Debra Messing was RIGHT THERE.

Aaron Sorkin has responded to the Lucy criticism with basically a “fuck you”: “We made this movie during COVID, and so in Zooming with Nicole and Javier and everyone else, I’d make it very clear to them that I am not looking for a physical or vocal impersonation of these people. Leading up to the first rehearsal, I’d write to them every day, ‘Just play the characters who are in the script.’”

OK, but Messing was RIGHT THERE.

Disney+’s growth is slowing down — way down. (This shouldn’t be a surprise, though: between its explosive subscription numbers when it debuted, and the pandemic production slowdown, there aren’t many people who don’t already have it who want it, and those holdouts have not been given any new reasons to subscribe, not really.)

CBS is out here using “minutes watched” as a measurement because I guess they’re jealous of Netflix?

The Wheel of Time showrunner expects the series to go eight seasons.

The Witcher will be downright chatty in season two, according to Henry Cavill.

The reason those Vizio TVs are so cheap is that they’re selling data about what you’re watching.

Children of the 70s and 80s, this one’s for you:

So, remember that production company, Ozy, that got in trouble for lying about a bunch of stuff? The Justice Department is now involved.

The person chosen by President Biden to run the FCC has received the endorsement of … the president of One America News Network … wait, that can’t possibly be right.

General Hospital has responded to that transphobic post that former cast member Ingo Rademacher shared. The series has a trans character played by a trans actress, which is great, but they could give her more of a role and story, tbh.

Ava DuVernay is set to be honored with the first-ever Melvin Van Peebles Trailblazer Award at the Critics Choice Association’s fourth annual Celebration of Black Cinema & Television.

Get better soon, Wendy Williams.

Oh no! Get better soon, Lois!

Rust update: Alec Baldwin, armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed, first Assistant Director David Halls, property master Sarah Zachry, armorer mentor Seth Kenny, the production, the financiers, and many more have been sued over the shooting death of Halyna Hutchins. It won’t be the last lawsuit. Hannah Gutierrez-Reed’s lawyer is out there saying that she’s being framed; Santa Fe’s D.A. isn’t buying it.

Astroworld update: Oh, look at that, no one was going around stabbing people with drugs after all. It was all a bullshit story the cops put out there with no evidence that the media took and ran with, again, with no evidence. Houston’s police chief is also trying to do his best to distance the force from any responsibility for what happened, but this all reeks of bullshit if you ask me.
