This is going to be a long one.

Monday night, Jimmy Kimmel delivered this monologue:

In the monologue, Kimmel noted, “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, and doing everything they can to score political points from it.” He then made fun of President Sociopath not actually mourning Charlie Kirk, being more concerned about the construction of the White House ballroom than his friend who had died a day and a half earlier.

On Tuesday, Kimmel delivered this monologue:

“Many in MAGA land are trying very hard to capitalize on the murder of Charlie Kirk,” he claimed. Kimmel went on to play a clip of JD Vance doing Kirk’s podcast from the White House, where he claimed that it’s a “fact” that political violence comes from the left. Kimmel then pointed out that this Department of Justice just removed a study that conclusively proved the exact opposite, that the far-right constitutes the biggest threat of terror and domestic violence in our country at the moment. (It’s true, tho.)

“What a difference an election makes,” Kimmel adds. “Two years ago, these meatheads couldn’t shut up about the First Amendment. Now they want to skip right ahead to the Second.”

Yesterday, Brendan Carr, the head of the FCC appeared on right-winger Benny Johnson’s podcast, where he suggested the agency has “remedies we can look at,” regarding Jimmy Kimmel.

“We can do this the easy way or the hard way,” Carr said. “These companies can find ways to change conduct and take action, frankly, on Kimmel or there’s going to be additional work for the FCC ahead.

“Frankly I think it’s past time that a lot of these licensed broadcasters themselves push back on Comcast and Disney, and say ’We are going to preempt — we are not going to run Kimmel anymore until you straighten this out,’” he said. “It’s time for them to step up and say this garbage — to the extent that that’s what comes down the pipe in the future — isn’t something that serves the needs of our local communities.”

Hours later, Nexstar and Sinclair, who own dozens of ABC affiliates, announced they would be pulling Jimmy Kimmel Live! from their station indefinitely, and Disney announced they would be pulling the show from all stations soon after.

Completely unrelated, I am sure: Nexstar is seeking to acquire Tegna, which would create a mega-company representing 80% of all stations in the country. They need FCC approval for this. “The FCC is scheduled to vote on Sept. 30 on whether to launch a public comment period to modify or eliminate the ownership rules.”

Sinclair is seeking deregulation and put out a statement: “We appreciate FCC Chairman Carr’s remarks today and this incident highlights the critical need for the FCC to take immediate regulatory action to address control held over local broadcasters by the big national networks,” Sinclair said.

And Disney is looking to buy the NFL Network, which, purely coincidentally, I’m sure, will also require FCC’s approval.

So, is the cancellation of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, however temporary or permanent, a violation of the First Amendment even though technically it was the business’s decision to yank it? Of course it is. Carr issued a mob-like threat to these companies, and they heard it loud and clear, and behaved exactly as the government wanted them to.

From Deadline: The FCC states on its own website that it has limited legal authority over programming. “Pursuant to these legal mandates, the FCC has long held that ‘the public interest is best served by permitting free expression of views,’” the FCC states. “Rather than suppress speech, communications law and policy seeks to encourage responsive ‘counter-speech’ from others. Following this principle ensures that the most diverse and opposing opinions will be expressed, even though some views or expressions may be highly offensive.”

Hey, look at this tweet from the head of the FCC, Brendan Carr, from the last time President TitttyBaby was in office, for no particular reason.

This time, Carr was thrilled, obviously, that his threats worked, and went on Hannity to crow about it:

“Something’s gone seriously awry,” Carr said about late night shows like Kimmel’s. “They went from being court jesters that would make fun of everybody in power to being court clerics and enforcing a very narrow political ideology. And Nexstar stood up and said, ‘We have the license and we don’t want to run this anymore. We don’t think it serves the interest of our community.’ Sinclair did the same thing. There’s more work to go, but I’m very glad to see that America’s broadcasters are standing up to serve the interest of their community. We don’t just have this progressive foie gras coming out from New York and Hollywood.

“This action today by Nexstar and Sinclair, frankly, is unprecedented,” Carr continues. “I can’t imagine another time we’ve had a local broadcasters tell a national programmer like Disney, ‘Your content no longer meets the needs and values of our community.’ So this is an important turning point.”

“Charlie Kirk set out to change the country, to change the culture,” he concluded. “And the results of his work are continuing to produce results, and that’s a good thing.”

AND THAT’S THE FUCKING IRONY, OF COURSE, WHICH IS THAT CHARLIE KIRK WAS A “FREE SPEECH WARRIOR.”

Anyway. President Don’t Make Fun of Me obviously loved this and set his sights on two more targets:

“Great News for America: The ratings challenged Jimmy Kimmel Show is CANCELLED,” Trump wrote on Truth Social Wednesday. “Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what had to be done. Kimmel has ZERO talent, and worse ratings than even Colbert, if that’s possible. That leaves Jimmy and Seth, two total losers, on Fake News NBC. Their ratings are also horrible. Do it NBC!!! President DJT”

He later claimed that Kimmel was “fired because of bad ratings more than anything else,” along with “saying a horrible thing about a gentleman called Charlie Kirk.”

Please refer to the videos above: Kimmel said nothing, not one single thing, about Charlie Kirk aside from the fact that President Narcissist didn’t exactly mourn him and that MAGA Land is trying to pin his murder on the left. That’s it.

In fact, this is what Kimmel posted on social media immediately after Kirk’s murder:

IF ANYTHING, KIMMEL IS THE ONLY ONE NOT POINTING FINGERS. I feel like I’m losing my mind.

There’s been plenty of outrage over Disney’s decision:

Hollywood unions called the cancellation “part of a disturbing trend of increasing interference in creative expression. This kind of political pressure on broadcasters and artists chills free speech and threatens the livelihoods of thousands of working Americans.”

The top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, Rep. Robert Garcia’s office, said that they will launch an investigation into the Trump administration, Sinclair Broadcast Group and ABC “amid ongoing efforts to censor opposition to the president of the United States.”

Chillingly, The View did not discuss this, perhaps the biggest news story of the day on today’s episode. Huh. Wonder why.

In the meantime, Jimmy Kimmel Live! will be replaced with a tribute to Charlie Kirk on Sinclair stations. They’ve also attempted to extort Kimmel into making a donation to Kirk’s family and Turning Point USA if he wants his show back on air. Other affiliates have said they will run reruns of Celebrity Family Feud through at least tonight.

Oh, and one other irony about all of this? Kimmel was set to address his comments about Kirk’s shooter on last night’s episode before it was unceremoniously yanked: 

He was expected to unpack the statement on tonight’s show, highlighting that he was not saying Tyler Robinson, who allegedly shot Kirk, was “one of them,” referring to Republicans, or MAGA supporters, but rather was highlighting how right-wing supporters were trying to distance themselves from the alleged shooter, who was charged with aggravated murder this week.

Pay attention tonight to Colbert, Fallon, Meyers, and The Daily Show — Jon Stewart will be hosting. They all taped yesterday’s shows ahead of the news that Kimmel had been pulled, so I expect they’ll be addressing it tonight. Oh, and keep your eye on Saturday Night Live. Because they’ll be going after them next, just watch.

This is exactly what those of us who were paying attention were worried about when ABC settled their lawsuit with President Dingus over the George Stephanopoulos situation, and even more alarmed when CBS settled their lawsuit with him over the 60 Minutes interview, and why we were setting our hair on fire when Colbert was canceled. 

I am so angry and exhausted. But mostly angry. And I have to remind myself to not let the exhaustion win. We must not let the bastards get us down. Oh, and release the Epstein Files. 

Oh cool, so the Paramount takeover of Warner Bros. is “inevitable” now. What could go wrong?

South Park missed its deadline last night and the episode that was scheduled to air on September 17th will now air on September 24. Matt Stone and Trey Parker released a statement on Instagram: “Apparently when you do everything at the last minute sometimes you don’t get it done. This one’s on us. We didn’t get it done in time. Thanks to Comedy Central and South Park fans for being so understanding. Tune in next week!”

But some people found the timing interesting, as this would be the first episode following the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
