THE TCAs ARE STILL HAPPENING. Guh. Yesterday it was Showtime and Pop TV’s turn:
What’s up, Showtime?
Shameless has been renewed for an 11th and final season. As much as I love this show, it’s time. In fact, it was probably time about three seasons ago.
Other shows that were renewed:
- Work in Progress, which is just a delight.
- The L Word: Generation Q
Showtime released a bunch of premiere dates and trailers as well:
Homeland returns on February 9. At the panel, the Homeland team discussed how in this final season, Carrie steps into Brodie’s shoes, and how Carrie’s disillusionment with the country is a broader statement about a post-9/11 America. Also, Mandy Patinkin has some thought on the Trump Administration:
“The irony of these past three years, to watch this current administration and the contagion and cancer that affects the world globally, of going to war with the intelligence community which our team has illustrated through the years and the cost that war — is just a stunner. And you can’t have it both ways. When you wake up in the morning and you say on your Tweet that we had imminent knowledge of an event that was going to take place and that’s why we did this and in the same breath 5 minutes earlier or later says ‘And that’s from the intelligence community but we choose to ignore the intelligence of about interfering with the elections of 2016 — that doesn’t work,” yelled the actor.

Penny Dreadful: City of Angels will premiere on April 26. Fun fact: the construction of the freeway system is what inspired the series.
The Chi returns on July 5. Lena Waithe will have a multi-episode arc, and other guest stars include: Luke James, La La Anthony, Lil Rel Howery, and Kandi Burrus.
Black Monday will return on March 15.
Billions will return on May 3. Julianna Margulies and Corey Stoll are set to guest star.
Vice moves from HBO to Showtime on March 29.
And speaking of documentaries, Showtime announced a slate of five documentary movies:
- The Trade, which follows some Central American immigrants trying to get to the United States. It premieres on March 6.
- The Longest War, a look at our war in Afghanistan. It premieres April 19.
- Love Fraud which searches for Richard Scott Smith, a fraudster who duped a bunch of women out of their money. It premieres May 8.
- Kingdom of Silence, an exploration of the United States’ relationship with Saudi Arabia and the murder of Jamal Khashoggi.
- The Kingmaker, a look at the legacy of the Marcos regime in the Phillippines and Imelda’s push to make her son vice-president. IMELDA IS STILL ALIVE?! It premieres on February 28.

Showtime also showed the press a first look photo of Halo — but did not make it available online.
Co-President Gary Levine also suggested that Ray Donovan might be nearing the end of its run, and might end after this eighth season.
Our Cartoon President was given additional episodes so that it could accompany The Circus through the election.
Showtime is not interested in revisiting Weeds without Mary Louise-Parker or creator Jenji Kohan, and as such, there is no plan to go forward.
Ethan Hawke had some thoughts on playing John Brown in the upcoming miniseries, The Good Lord Bird.
Spy thriller Intelligence is not going forward at Showtime.
Over at Pop TV:
Pop has picked up new comedy Mother Mary, which asks the question, “What would happen in today’s world if the most irresponsible and lazy human on Earth was impregnated by immaculate conception?” Betsy Sodaro stars as the modern Mary, and ohmygod, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend‘s Rachel Bloom (who is producing the series) will co-star as the mother of the Antichrist. I’M SOLD. LET’S DO THIS.
One Day at a Time will debut on Pop on March 24. However, to accommodate its new 21-minute running time, the theme song has been cut.
Flack will return on March 13. Daniel Dae Kim, Sam Neil, and Martha Plimpton will all guest star.

Shepard Smith is reportedly in talks to possibly come to MSNBC. DO IT, SHEP.
Falcon & Winter Soldier‘s production has been halted following the earthquakes in Puerto Rico where they were set to film for several weeks.
SXSW has added: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, and Misha Collins; Samantha Bee; Stephen Colbert; Jonathan Van Ness as speakers, and a panel on Little Fires Everywhere among a bunch of others.
The time Family Guy made up their own word for “vagina” but were forbidden to use it on air.
Renewals
- YOU has been renewed for a third season on Netflix. Not a surprise considering how quickly I gobbled that garbage up this weekend.
In Development
- A revival of 24 starring Kiefer Sutherland is, in fact, being discussed.
- Go Karts, an Australian family film, has been bought by Netflix.
- Craig Zobel has signed a two-year deal with HBO.
Casting News
- Dave Bautista is joining See on Apple TV+.
- Gael García Bernal has joined the cast of Station Eleven on HBO Max.

- Shrill returns on Hulu on January 24.
- The Stand is expected to premiere on CBS All Access sometime in late 2020.
- Volcano Live! in which Nik Wallenda will walk over a live volcano, will air on ABC on March 4.
