The Year: 2023: Oh look, another look back at the events and newsmakers of 2023. 8 p.m., ABC

Hell Camp: Teen Nightmare: This documentary tells the story of a wilderness camp in Utah for wayward teens where the conditions were brutal and the counselors were worse. (If you find this documentary interesting, I suggest you look into a podcast called The Opportunist which does a seven-part story about a similar camp. The episodes are in season seven, I believe, on Gayle Palmer. Horrifying stuff.) Premiere. Netflix

Oprah and the Color Purple Journey: Oprah explores the importance of The Color Purple in all of its forms: the novel, the movie, and the musical. Premiere. Max

The Conversation: I find that I recommend this every time I see it, but it’s that good. Gene Hackman is the best. 9 p.m., Flix

Restoring Galveston: The Inn: The Saving Galveston folks restore a 1912 boarding house, turning it into a boutique hotel. Series premiere. Discovery+

SATURDAY

Time Bomb Y2K: This documentary tells the story of the complete panic and mania that surrounded the millennium. It genuinely was nuts. Premiere. 9 p.m., HBO

Mulholland Drive: I also tend to recommend this movie every time I see it, because it’s amazing and weird and amazing. 8:35 p.m., The Movie Channel Xtra

Harry Potter marathon: Abracadabra or whatever. 9 a.m., Bravo

SUNDAY
