All Other TV News
“The Golden Globes” was held last night, and I put “The Golden Globes” in scare quotes because there was neither a broadcast nor even a live feed from the event (which actually did take place at the Beverly Hills Hilton — just without a single famous face in attendance.) Instead, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association chose to announce winners by clogging up Twitter with a bunch of unhinged tweets. (More on that in a sec.)
As for who actually won, here are the TV winners:
- Best Television Series, Drama: “Succession”
- Best Television Series, Musical or Comedy: “Hacks”
- Best Limited Series, Anthology Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television: “The Underground Railroad”
- Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series, Drama: Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, “Pose”
- Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series, Drama: Jeremy Strong, “Succession”
- Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series, Musical or Comedy: Jean Smart, “Hacks”
- Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series, Anthology Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television: Kate Winslet, “Mare of Easttown”
- Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Supporting Role: Sarah Snook, “Succession”
- Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series, Musical or Comedy: Jason Sudeikis, “Ted Lasso”
- Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television: Michael Keaton, “Dopesick”
- Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Supporting Role: O Yeong-su, “Squid Game”
The big winners in film were The Power of the Dog and West Side Story, which in itself is a funny story. So, as I mentioned, the HFPA announced the winners via tweet, and here’s how they announced West Side Story had won Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy: “If laughter is the best medicine, [West Side Story] is the cure for what ails you.”
Now, anyone who is familiar with West Side Story knows, it’s hardly a laugh riot, as it is AN ADAPTATION OF ROMEO AND JULIET. So, HFPA pulled that tweet, and simply replaced “laughter” with “music” … which “music is the best medicine,” isn’t a thing that people say?
They also, for reasons that are unclear, added “Lean on Me” to a tweet announcing Ariana DeBose won Best Supporting Actress for her performance in West Side Story. “Lean on Me” is in no way associated with West Side Story. But at least West Side Story was mentioned in that tweet — there were several which forgot to include what project the person won for.

I literally just had a full mental breakdown at the fact they just changed laughter to music. I can’t catch my breath. Is this a panic attack? https://t.co/8BFlT72wmH

Anyway, you can see all the winners here.
Amy Schneider has become the first woman and only the fourth person to surpass $1 million on Jeopardy! Interestingly, since 2003, half of the contestants who have won 10 or more episodes have done so in the past five years. What gives? Is the show getting easier? Are contestants figuring out the system?
GIVE ME IT ALREADY. GIMME.
Good luck, Clay!
Can you believe it's been almost 20 years since I first got to share my voice with you? That's a long time. A LOT has changed!
We need powerful voices more than ever, so I'm running for Congress.

It looks like Mary Crosby has quit The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City after her fellow castmates insinuated that she is running a cult. She did not show up for the reunion show, essentially assuring that she will be fired.
And over on The Real Housewives of New York, The Countess’ ex-husband (and everyone’s ex) Tom got engaged, again, on the anniversary of his wedding to Luann. She claims that she wishes nothing but happiness for him, but come the fuck on.
If you needed more information about that 90 Day Fiancé star who was selling her own farts, boy, is it your lucky day.

R.I.P.
Bob Saget, Comedian, star of Full House and Fuller House, host of America’s Funniest Home Videos, narrator of How I Met Your Mother. He was a comedian who played off his image as America’s Dad to sometimes be shockingly raunchy, but who had a reputation of being one of the nicest people in comedy. As you can see below, the outpouring of grief from the comedy community is profound. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.

I had so much imposter syndrome when HIMYM started, thought I’d be found out, kicked off set & sent home. When I'd run into Bob on the Fox lot in those early days he'd gush over my performance & tell me how he was studying me to make sure his vocal performance felt right. 2/7
— Josh Radnor (@JoshRadnor) January 10, 2022
We had a very special bond from Day 1, were never out of touch for long. We found a way to grab dinner once a year, even after HIMYM wrapped. We went to see each other in our Broadway plays. We talked a lot about how to live a meaningful life amidst all the chaos. 4/7
— Josh Radnor (@JoshRadnor) January 10, 2022
There are people who leave the earth and you’re haunted by all the things you didn’t tell them, all the love that was unexpressed. Luckily that wasn’t the case with Bob. We adored each other and we told each other. 6/7 https://t.co/U3WITMhP1C

Nice guys DO finish first. Beyond his considerable talents, Bob Saget was a kind and gentle presence that always made every one in the room feel at ease. A sweeter man there never was. And a wicked sense of humor that would make you howl with laughter.

Four decades of friendship. Had Thanksgiving with Bob once when we were coming up. He cooked the turkey but had no idea you were supposed to take the innards out. We completely lost it. I know that people lose loved ones, good people, every day. No one gets a pass. But the loss of Bob Saget hits deep. If you didn’t know him, he was kind and dear and cared about people deeply. He was the definition of “a good egg”. Too soon he leaves. #RipBobSaget

There wasn’t a kinder person in Hollywood than Bob Saget. I am having trouble wrapping my head around this. I do not want to believe this. It’s all too much to handle.

I’m so shocked at @bobsaget’s passing. One of the most kind & thoughtful people I’ve ever come across & he just happened to be one of the funniest on the planet. I will miss you so much Bob. Love you dear friend. I’m so sorry @kellyrizzo. And so sorry to the rest of the family.

Dick Carson, Director of The Tonight Show and brother of Johnny Carson
Marilyn Bergman, Multiple Oscar, Grammy, and Emmy-winning lyricist and leader in the industry
Marilyn and Alan Bergman were like family, as well as brilliant lyricists.
We met over 60 years ago backstage at a little night club, and never stopped loving each other and working together.
Their songs are timeless, and so is our love.
May she rest in peace.
With love,

My dear, dear, beautiful Marilyn Bergman, to lose you this morning, so close to our brother Sidney, is just crushing me. There was only one Marilyn Bergman. No one knew that more than her husband and partner in music, Alan. To those of us who loved the Bergman’s lyrics, Marilyn takes a bit of our hearts and souls with her today.
