It’s Thursday, and in 69 days, Joe Biden will be the President of the United States. Nice.
Political Crap
President Denial still hasn’t conceded, but Joe Biden don’t care. He just named Ron Klain, a longtime Democratic aide, and more importantly the person in charge of the Ebola outbreak during the Obama administration, his Chief of Staff, easily the most important role in any administration.
Meanwhile, President Failure’s legal avenues to challenge the election are drying up, one of his law firms has quit on him, and, another reminder for the idiots on the right who still haven’t gotten the message: faithless electors is not a thing that is going to work. And slowly, but surely, some Republicans are beginning to get the message:
CNN: GOP Senator James Lankford says he will intervene if the Trump Adminstration hasn’t allowed President-elect Joe Biden access to presidential daily intelligence briefings by Friday.
— Scott Dworkin (@funder) November 12, 2020
New – Sen. Chuck Grassley, who is the most senior Republican in the Senate, told me that President-elect Joe Biden should have access to classified briefings to prepare for the transition.
— Manu Raju (@mkraju) November 12, 2020
“I would think – especially on classified briefings – the answer is yes,” Grassley said.
Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine became one of the highest-profile sitting Republicans to acknowledge Joe Biden’s victory today, going a step further than his Monday statement and calling Biden the president-elect pic.twitter.com/en14L5jfGc

Karl Rove reads the writing on the wall for Trump:
— Ryan Goodman (@rgoodlaw) November 12, 2020
“The president’s efforts are unlikely to move a single state from Mr. Biden’s column, and CERTAINLY they’re not enough to change the final outcome.”https://t.co/MZvD9tcIb4
The estimable @RonaldKlain is a terrific choice by the president-elect. He’s been a serious student of the risk of pandemic for a long time: https://t.co/otpTOULa58 https://t.co/kLKf1Pt9TT
— Hugh Hewitt (@hughhewitt) November 12, 2020
Now, let me be clear, this is embarassing that these are the only high profile Republicans who feel brave enough to acknowledge THE GODDAMNED TRUTH, but that’s how insane and partisan we’ve become.
Meanwhile, the White House continues to make noises towards some sort of resolution. NBC News reports that President Ruiner may accept the results without ever conceding that he lost.
“Do not expect him to concede,” one top aide said. More likely, the aide said, “he’ll say something like, ‘We can’t trust the results, but I’m not contesting them.’”
Another adviser said that after the legal battles and recounts, the closest the president is likely to get to a concession is, “he’ll acknowledge the results and that we’ll never know how accurate they are.”
“But we’re not there yet,” the adviser said.
Trump is "very aware there is not a path to victory," but he believes the 72 million who voted for him "deserve a fight" so he's battling as a form of "theater" for them, a top White House aide tells me.
— Peter Alexander (@PeterAlexander) November 12, 2020
Ah, yes. Theater. Why try to protect democracy from an erosion of faith when we can put on a show both for idiot MAGAites and President Snowflake’s delicate ego?
But the real evidence that we might be nearing an end to this charade is that there is now talk of a post-game plan: Trump TV. You might remember back in 2016, there was some talk of President Shitshow starting his own network if he lost to Clinton. Apparently, that idea is back, but this time he wants to destroy Fox News for having the audacity to call Arizona (correctly) for Biden on Election Night.
.@FoxNews daytime ratings have completely collapsed. Weekend daytime even WORSE. Very sad to watch this happen, but they forgot what made them successful, what got them there. They forgot the Golden Goose. The biggest difference between the 2016 Election, and 2020, was @FoxNews!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 12, 2020
Here’s Trump’s plan, according to the source:
-
- There’s been lots of speculation about Trump starting a cable channel. But getting carried on cable systems would be expensive and time-consuming.
- Instead, Trump is considering a digital media channel that would stream online, which would be cheaper and quicker to start.
- Trump’s digital offering would likely charge a monthly fee to MAGA fans. Many are Fox News viewers, and he’d aim to replace the network — and the $5.99-a-month Fox Nation streaming service, which has an 85% conversion rate from free trials to paid subscribers — as their top destination.
Frankly, I think this is too good to be true: I would love to see Trump TV and Fox News devour each other, but New York Times TV critic Jams Poniewozik makes an excellent point:
PS I would bet this is not lost on Trump, who if he knows nothing else has a taste for the fit & finish of TV production, and I think on some level he would find being associated with the amateur-hour production of Newsmax et al as embarrassing as losing the election
— James Poniewozik (@poniewozik) November 12, 2020
Anyway, the point is, now we just wait. And in 69 days, all of this noise will stop.
Black Lives Matter
Carly Hughes exited American Housewife, alleging a toxic work environment. “I was no longer able to work in the toxic environment that was created on American Housewife,” Hughes said in a statement to Deadline. “I made the decision to leave to protect myself from that type of discrimination. As a black woman in entertainment, I feel the responsibility to stand up for what I deserve, what we all deserve — to be treated equally. I wish the show well, and I am excited for a new chapter and to be able to pursue the opportunities ahead.”
ABC Signature launched an investigation: “Following the probe, American Housewife creator Sarah Dunn is no longer an active producer on the show, Mark J. Greenberg stepped down as line producer, and showrunners Rick Wiener and Kenny Schwartz underwent sensitivity training.” Damn. What happened there?
John Boyega had an “honest” conversation with Disney about his criticism of how they sidelined the characters of color in Star Wars. He also demanded that studios do more to protect their actors from toxic backlash online. “When one of your actors, especially an actor that’s so prominent in the story, is announced as part of your franchise and then it has a big racial backlash and receives abuse online and that starts to form a shadow on what is supposed to be an amazing gift, it is important for the studios to definitely lend their voice, lend their support to that and to have a sense of solidarity not just in the public eye, but on the ground on set.”
Chris Rock hates Civil Rights movies because they make racism look “very fixable.” Fair.
Here is a look at how network police procedurals will address police brutality in thewake of the George Floyd protests. The real question is whether these storylines will be one-off nods to the summer’s protests, or if the genre will actually change their ways of framing police dramas, and maybe not go with default hero-worship narratives.

Oh, and Corey Lewandowski and Richard Walters, the RNC Chief of Staff, have both tested positive. GEE, WHERE’D THEY GET IT?
The Maryland-Ohio State game was canceled for this weekend after eight Maryland players tested positive. The game will not be rescheduled. “The Big Ten rivals join already sidelined LSU-Alabama, Georgia-Missouri, Texas A&M-Tennessee and Auburn-Mississippi State. All four of the SEC games have been postponed by positive player tests.” GREAT PLAN TO GO AHEAD WITH COLLEGE FOOTBALL, EVERYONE.

To be fair, Angel was the right boyfriend for Buffy coming into her power. Spike was the right man to be with as she became the power.

Oof… Trump TV is literally in the plotline of The Good Fight S4 Ep1 “The Gang Deals with Alternate Reality.” I can’t even with this fuckery anymore.
I hope you are right about soon-to-be ex-President Voldemort. I am very concerned about the moves he’s made at DOD. I am personally praying that he will have to go abroad to a non-extradition country once all of the lawsuits pick up. And I hope he continues to be a sore enough loser that all but his QAnon following will desert him. (A girl can dream.) I don’t know how we stuff the genie back into the bottle, all of this division, violence and partisanship. But if we are going to survive as a country, we have to. Biden has his work cut out for him.
Also, I love Stacey Abrams! She has excellent taste in television shows. Gosh, I do miss Buffy. And Angel. (Don’t get me started on Spike.) I just hope Joss Whedon isn’t the jerk that he has been alleged to be.
