MONDAY

2019 MTV Video Music Awards: Sebastian Maniscalco hosts. Which makes no sense but OK. 7 p.m., MTV (Pre-show begins at 6 p.m.)

Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath: The final episode of the groundbreaking series explores how Scientology’s policies prevent victims from reporting their abuse. Leah Remini and Mike Rinder did important work with this show and it’s a shame it’s coming to an end. Series finale. 9 p.m., A&E

Dave Chappelle Sticks and Stones: Another stand-up special from the one and only. Netflix

TUESDAY

Terror: This new series explores the origins of some of the world’s most dangerous terrorist organizations, including Al Qaeda and Boko Haram, among others. Series premiere. 8 p.m., Viceland

Bachelor in Paradise: Krystal with a K and Mr. Entitled finally tie the knot. 7 p.m., ABC

Office Space: It still amazes me that this movie took as long as it did to become the cult classic it is today. 8 p.m. IFC

WEDNESDAY

Travis Scott: Look Mom, I Can Fly: A documentary about Travis Scott and the creation and release of his album Astroworld. Of particular interest to those of us in Houston for obvious reasons. Netflix

Animal Babies: First Year on Earth: As if the person who makes you watch cute animal videos isn’t going to suggest you watch a show about animal babies. Series premiere. 7 p.m., PBS

Yellowstone: Season finale and bonus Dabney Coleman. 9 p.m., Paramount

THURSDAY

NFL Preseason Football: Houston Texans host the Los Angeles Rams for a football game that in the grand scheme of things doesn’t actually matter. 7 p.m., ABC

Smokey and the Bandit: Eastbound and down, loaded up truckin’. We’re gonna do what they say can’t be done. 7:56 Starz Encore

Kardec: A film about the Parisian man who created Spiritism, and wrote books on “the nature, origin, and destiny of spirits, and their relation with the corporeal world.”  Netflix

FRIDAY

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance: Three Gelflings set off on a journey to save their world in the sequel to the 80s Jim Henson film. Series premiere. Netflix

Carnival Row: Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne star in this fantasy series that is a not-so-subtle allegory about the refugee crisis. Series premiere. Amazon

Styling Hollywood: A celebrity stylist and his interior decorating husband help curate “black girl magic” for the likes of Taraji P. Henson, Gabrielle Union, Eve, and Ava DuVernay in this new reality series. Series premiere. Netflix

SATURDAY

Can You Ever Forgive Me?: Melissa McCarthy and Richard E. Grant star in this Academy-award winning film about a forger of fake celebrity documents. 7 p.m., HBO

 Children of Men: I’m just saying this dystopian nightmare feels awfully familiar these days. 8 p.m., Starz Encore

SUNDAY

M*A*S*H marathon: It’s Labor Day weekend which means TV marathons! 4 a.m., Sundance TV

The Hunger Games marathon: Marathons! 12:30 p.m., E!
