The two discussed how the Internet has given fans a bigger voice, although Martin said far too often, the conversation can spiral into “madness.”
“The Internet is toxic in a way that the old fanzine culture and fandoms — comics fans, science fiction fans in those days – was not,” Martin explained.
“There were disagreements. There were feuds, but nothing like the madness that you see on the Internet,” he continued.
And now I take you back to 2011 when George R.R. Martin had some feelings about how Lost ended:
We watched [Lost] every week trying to figure it out, and as it got deeper and deeper I kept saying, ‘They better have something good in mind for the end. This better pay off here.’ And then I felt so cheated when we got to the conclusion.” Martin also cites the Lost ending as the type of mistake he fears making with his own show, saying, “I want to give them something terrific. What if I f— it up at the end? What if I do a Lost? Then they’ll come after me with pitchforks and torches.”
You know who remembers? The North Damon Lindelof remembers.
In other Game of Thrones news, apparently, there was a scene from season 8 that was cut that showed Cersei miscarrying. It’s a shame — we really could have used a whole lot more Cersei in that final season. I’m not sure that showing her miscarrying would have added much, I think the mystery of her pregnancy was actually beneficial to the show, keeping everyone including the characters and audience guessing as to whether or not she was just being manipulative again. But I genuinely wish she had been given more to do in the final episodes.
And in what would have been a VERY COOL scene that never made it to the scripts (but will hopefully be in the books), in the Battle of Winterfell, Viserion was originally supposed to have been attacked by a pack of 50 direwolves. I imagine this pack would have (may still be) lead by Nymeria, Arya’s direwolf, but who knows. In any event, GOD DAMMIT, I WANTED A PACK OF 50 DIREWOLVES. THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN SO FUCKING COOOOOOOL.
You’ll be able to buy the complete series Blu-Rays on December 3, just in time for the holidays.
In some much needed good news, Pop TV has picked up One Day at a Time, saving it from cancelation. The series will return in 2020.
Schitt’s Creek has wrapped filming.
George R.R. Martin and Damon Lindelof aren’t the only ones involved in a back and forth. (I would give anything for a Sunny/Office mashup.)
Also, you MUST watch this Emmy nomination reel for Sunny. GIVE THEM ALL THE EMMYS, PEOPLE.
Wait, wait, wait, there is actual talk of a Family Guy movie? I truly hate this timeline.
For you Big Bang Theory fans out there, the set has been added to the Warner Brother’s Studio Tour.
Comic-Con Junk:
- Westworld, Game of Thrones, Watchmen and His Dark Materials will be at the convention this year. Game of Thrones will be sending “Jacob Anderson (Grey Worm), John Bradley (Samwell Tarly), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister), Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth), Nathalie Emmanuel (Missandei of Naath), Iain Glen (Ser Jorah Mormont), Conleth Hill (Varys), Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) and Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran Stark). Other panelists include creators and showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss and director and executive producer Miguel Sapochnik.” So, no Daenerys, Tyrion, Cersei, Sansa, Jon, Brienne, Tormund, Melisandre, Bronn, Gendry, Theon or The Hound.
- The Witcher and The Dark Crystal: Resistance will both be in attendance.
- Snowpiercer will make its debut at the convention.
- CBS and Disney/ABC have also announced which shows will attend.
- Conan is going to be there, too.
Well well well, look who believes in boycotts all of a sudden. Apparently, white supremacist and ultra-right groups have started taking up the Betsy Ross flag as one of their symbols, so when Nike decided to include the flag on a pair of Air Ones, Colin Kaepernick expressed some concerns to the company. The shoe company pulled the design and now Laura Ingraham is outraged! OUTRAGED! And will not be buying any more Nikes. Ok.
Your new Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Stephanie Grisham, fought back against North Korean guards who tried to prevent U.S. journalists from entering the room at the DMZ where Trump was meeting with Kim Jong-un. And I mean this sincerely: good for her. (She won’t last a year.)

Some of your favorite shows at Pride:
In the wake of the renewed attention the Central Park Five case has been receiving in the wake of When They See Us, President Lock Them Up was asked by April Ryan if he would apologize to the innocent men he called to be executed. His response: “Why do you bring that question up now? It’s an interesting time to bring it up. You have people on both sides of that. They admitted their guilt. If you look at Linda Fairstein, and you look at some of the prosecutors, they think that the city should never have settled that case. So we’ll leave it at that.” Our President is a bad person.
As you can imagine, Ava DuVernay had some feelings about this response.
Oh, and the NYPD detective who made the first arrests in the case, he’s not a fan of the series, either, for some reason. Meanwhile, some 23 million people have watched the series, so I guess it doesn’t matter what this jackass or Donald Trump thinks.
In MUCH happier news, NRA TV is shutting down. ADIOS, ASSHOLES.

You think that the army of direwolfs would have been controlled by Bran? That way he would have done something.
Also I hate it when groups take symbols from history and make them their own. Battle of Gonzales Flag, Gasden Flag etc.
