The Magicians: “Brian takes a friend out for ice cream” is literally the description for the season premiere because they are fucking with us. Season premiere. 8 p.m., Syfy

The Dictator’s Playbook: A look at six 20th century dictators. No reason. Series premiere. 9 p.m., PBS

Nova: In the season premiere, NOVA examines the Kilauea volcano eruption because volcanos are cool.  8 p.m., PBS

The Good Place: “Various events occur, in a certain specific order.” Personally, I’m excited to see if they do any interesting casting with the four new humans. Season finale. 8:30 p.m., NBC

Legacies: Hope and Alaric search for Landon in the mid-season premiere. Whitney’s been catching up with recaps if you need a little reminder of where we’ve been so far. 8 p.m., The CW

Broad City: It’s Abbi’s thirtieth birthday in the final season premiere. DON’T GO, BABIES. 9 p.m., Comedy Central

The Other Two: This new series is from Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider, the former SNL head writers (back when SNL was pretty good). In it, two older siblings try to figure out their own place in the world when their 13-year-old brother becomes a teenybopper sensation. Series premiere. 9:30 p.m., Comedy Central

Confessions of a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes: TED BUNDY BE SCARY. Premiere. Netflix

Siren: The mermaids are back. Season premiere. 7 p.m., Freeform

FRIDAY

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: The final episodes, you guys. Season premiere/series finale. Netflix

Kingdom: A Korean zombie series set during the Joseon dynasty (which spanned between 1392-1897, so really anytime in there, I guess?). Anyway, it looks pretty and cool and pretty cool. Series premiere. Netflix

Polar: Mads Mikkelsen and Vanessa Hudgens star in this film based on the comic book of the same name about an assassin forced out of retirement. Question: are any retired assassins ever just left alone in their retirement or are they always harassed back into the business? Netflix

Black Earth Rising: Michaela Cole and John Goodman star in this British series about the prosecution of international war criminals. Series premiere. Netflix

Strike Back: Season premiere. Cinemax

SATURDAY

Saturday Night Live: James McAvoy and Meek Mill 10:30 p.m., NBC

Tag: A bunch of grown-ass men play tag. That’s the whole movie. 7:15 p.m., HBO

  1. What the fork? I must say, I know it’s because of timing and such but I am not a fan of 13 episode seasons giving us 10 in the Fall and only 3 in the Spring. More TGP!
