I’m not going to spend a lot of time this morning talking about how the man we “elected” president debased himself in front of a murderous autocrat in front of the entire world. If you’re like me, you spent most of yesterday oscillating between disbelief and rage and throwing your hands up in the air while screaming “BUT OF COURSE WE ALL KNEW THIS SINCE BEFORE THE FUCKING ELECTION, WHY IS ANYONE ACTING SURPRISED?” …
… and you probably want to spend as little time on the story as possible, maybe lying down on the couch with a bag of Sriracha-flavored potato chips and losing yourself in a Queer Eye marathon instead. I mean, theoretically.
But before we move on from the story, a quick round-up of how the media responded to one of the most historic and catastrophic days in modern American history.
As soon as the press conference was over, news anchors did not spare their criticism:
“You have been watching,” said the disembodied voice of Anderson Cooper, “one of the most disgraceful performances by an American president at a summit in front of a Russian leader that I’ve ever seen.”
“All of you who are watching today will be able to tell your friends, family, your children, your grandchildren, you were watching a moment of history,” said George Stephanopoulos of ABC News, adding: “It may not be for the right reasons.”
“They were almost chummy, as if they were allies,” said a dumbfounded Norah O’Donnell of CBS News. “The way they talked about one another and how they wanted to move forward together in the future.”
CNN’s David Gergen, the veteran presidential adviser, said it was “a struggle to put it all together,” concluding, finally: “I’ve never heard an American president talk that way.”
And the reviews did not improve overnight. Unsurprisingly, Joe Scarborough had some not exactly positive thoughts this morning on Morning Joe:
“He has an opportunity to show fealty to our republic, instead what he showed was fecklessness towards Russia,” said Scarborough.
“He had a chance to show courage in the face of a tyrant, instead he showed cowardice on that world stage where the president looked like a weak dumpy stooge to a KGB spy.”
“There is no parallel,” said Scarborough of President Trump’s continued skepticism of the Russian meddling campaign. “FDR after Pearl Harbor didn’t deny that there was an attack. George W. Bush didn’t deny Al-Qaeda’s attack on September 11th.”
Brian Kilmeade had a message for POTUS:
“I will say this to the president, when Newt Gingrich, when General Jack Keane, when Matt Schlapp say the president fell short and made our intelligence apparatus look bad – I think it’s time to pay attention.”
“It’s easily correctable,” Kilmeade advised Trump. “Nobody’s perfect, especially in ten intense days of summits, private meetings, and everything on his plate. But that moment is the one that’s going to stand out unless he comes out and corrects it.”
Steve Doocy jumped in to say “A lot of people get confused,” then added quickly, “I’m not saying the president’s confused.”
“But, a lot of people are confused about the Russia collusion thing. There is a big difference between collusion and the meddling. The president says there was no collusion… But, pretty much everybody and their brother, except Vladimir Putin, knows that there was meddling.”
That said, Sean Hannity tried his best to spin the press conference in some positive way in his interview with Trump, claiming that Trump was “very strong” at the end of it, demanding to know where Clinton’s emails were. Trump: “I thought President Putin was very, very strong.” LOL, KEEP DIGGING THAT HOLE, DONNY.
So, yeah, as you can imagine, Putin’s-Bitch-in-Chief has responded via Twitter:

Netflix has released first look images for their new She-Ra animated series and gross adult men have their panties all in a twist because they don’t think she’s sexy enough. First of all, not everything is for you, men, second of all, fucking grow up already, and finally, try not being so gross all of the time.
“There has been widespread misinformation over the past week about the character of Billy Wayne Ruddick Jr., Ph.D., performed by Sacha Baron Cohen on the Showtime comedy series ‘Who Is America?’” a network spokesperson said. “Baron Cohen did not present himself as a disabled veteran, and viewers nationwide who watched the premiere on Sunday can now attest to that. In Sunday’s episode, during an interview with Senator Bernie Sanders, Baron Cohen in character as Dr. Ruddick was asked by the Senator if he is disabled, and he stated that he is not and uses a mobility scooter to conserve his energy. In addition, Baron Cohen never presented himself as a veteran of the U.S. military to former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin during the booking process or during the filming of her interview, and contrary to her claims he did not appear in a wheelchair. In both the interview with Governor Palin and the interview with Senator Sanders, he did not wear military apparel of any kind.”

Wait a minute. That press conference was real? I thought it was a poorly done and too long SNL “cold opening.” (Baldwin seemed a bit over the top, but the guy playing Putin nailed it.)
