HI GUYS! So Upfronts begin next week and I AM A LITTLE STRESSED OUT. Cancelations, renewals, series orders, THERE IS JUST A WHOLE LOT GOING ON RIGHT NOW AND IT’S HARD TO KEEP UP, QUITE HONESTLY, SOMEONE FETCH ME A RESTORATIVE COCKTAIL.
This post is an attempt to organize what we know about what The CW has in store for the fall season: all the new shows, all the renewed shows and, R.I.P. — all the canceled shows. News is fluid right now, so check back in as I will continue to update these posts.
The CW’s Upfront presentation is in the morning of Thursday, May 17th. By then, we should have photos, trailers, a schedule and a full list of The CW’s renewed and canceled series. I will add that information as it comes in. Send … you know what? Send all the candy. That’s all I want at this point: candy.
A few notes ahead of The CW’s upfront presentation (still waiting for pictures, CW): Along with their fall schedule, the network announced this morning that this upcoming season will be iZombie, Jane the Virgin and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend‘s last. (Sigh.) Additionally, iZombie, and Jane the Virgin are being held until midseason, along with The 100 and new series Roswell, New Mexico and In the Dark.

Nope. UPDATE: One large part Friday Night Lights divided by The OC with a dash of Beverly Hills 90210. I can’t lie, it looks better than I initially thought.

Charmed

It’s a lot to take in for the sisters, but they ultimately accept their new destiny as The Charmed Ones, and their new duty to protect humankind from the demons that walk among us.

Maybe. UPDATE: Eh. The trailer is a little on the nose with its SISTERHOOD! thing, but it’s from the creator of Jane the Virgin who does aspirational female relationships better than just about anyone. I have a feeling this will be one of those, “Give it More Than Just the Pilot” kind of shows. Although I have to say the casting of Melonie Diaz and Sara Jeffrey as sisters is remarkable.
Roswell, New Mexico – Midseason

After reluctantly returning to her tourist-trap hometown of Roswell, New Mexico, the daughter of undocumented immigrants discovers a shocking truth about her teenage crush who is now a police officer: he’s an alien who has kept his unearthly abilities hidden his entire life. In the Dark – Midseason

Murphy is a hard-living, hard-drinking, disaffected twentysomething with a penchant for cigarettes and casual sex. She’s also blind. Murphy lives with her understanding roommate, Jess, and more reluctantly also lives with her guide dog, Pretzel, whose presence she resents. Murphy’s life comes crashing down when, while out for a walk with Pretzel, she stumbles upon what she’s sure is the lifeless body of her troubled friend Tyson in the alley outside her apartment. But when the police arrive there is no body to be found – and with Murphy not exactly sober, the police aren’t especially inclined to investigate. Murphy is devastated, and is only held back from spiraling downward even further by her resolve to learn what happened to Tyson … even if it means she has to sober up a little. Pilot written by Corinne Kingsbury and directed by Michael Showalter.

T’s Take:
Nope. UPDATE: Well… maybe. Look, I was irritated with The CW over not picking up “Wayward Sisters,” a decision I still just don’t quite get. And the logline for this one, “Blind detective!” coupled with that punny title, made me less inclined to give it a chance. However, this longer description coupled with the fact that it was directed by Michael Showalter, makes it sound more like Search Party or Blind Veronica Mars, so color me intrigued. Of all The CW’s new shows, I am now officially most interested in this one.

So the CW passed on Wayward Sisters. Just wrong. Good premise, good cast, great characters, and a built-in audience … and better than some of the new shows they’ve announced. (In the Dark sounds promising, Charmed will depend on the cast, the others have been done before and are meh at best.) Maybe it’ll be a mid-season replacement.
